I don’t know about you, but my mind is always racing. I have to consciously slow it down and bring it to a state of silence. My hacks? Well, they vary. Last evening, it was Pausa Art House. You know, that quaint jazz venue in the heart of Allentown? If not, you’re missing out on something truly special!
I must admit, I’ve missed out on many amazing shows there, but I wasn’t going to miss this one. Cannonball meets Coltrane band fronted by the winds & reeds of Elliot Scozzaro & John Aaron Troy, coalesced with Nick Weiser (piano), Paul Laduca (bass), and John Bacon Jr (drums).
I met Elliot Scozzaro one bitterly cold day in the heart of winter at a venue on Hertel, all thanks to Irene Haupt, General Manager of A Musical Feast, who knows every remarkable musician in the city. It wasn’t my first time hearing Elliot play, but it had been quite a while since I last immersed myself in the music of John Coltrane… live.
John Coltrane floods me with beautiful memories, from my days at Zurich’s School of Art and Design (HGKZ), where I first immersed myself in experimental music to the surreal experience of visiting his church in San Francisco… distant dreams abruptly interrupted…
My bar view at Pausa Art House, captivated by Elliot and John’s dance-battle of saxophones. What a treat! Elliot’s introspective and mysterious ways contrasting John’s exuberant and happy energy…
Keep in mind, Pausa is a listening venue. I bet you haven’t heard that one before – well, I certainly hadn’t. It means you can sip your drink and savor your food while immersing yourself in the music, without chatting with your companion or neighbor sitting next to you. I really like that!
So, take a pause and truly listen… at Pausa! And don’t forget to join Elliot Scozzaro and John Aaron Troy on their show adventures!
