I wasn’t sure whether to write about the the art of traveling light (which I meant to post last Sunday) or the exquisite Freedom of the Seas cruise ship. But since they’re related, I’ll succinctly cover both.
I once belonged to the camp of cruise skeptics. The idea of being confined on a ship didn’t appeal to me. But life has a way of surprising us. An opportunity I couldn’t turn down knocked at my door, and suddenly I found myself aboard the magnificent Freedom of the Seas cruise ship.
I joined the enthusiastic cruise squad, who had been packing for weeks, with just a carry-on. Determined to travel light (as I always do), I stuck to my promise, but not without facing a packing dilemma.
The night before departure, I packed all my essentials. Everything fit except my hair dryer with its bulky diffuser. I had to choose between my hair dryer (for good hair days) and three pairs of high heels (to match my evening outfits). Can you guess what I picked? Yes, I decided to give my hair a break and let it air dry.
But let’s talk about the Freedom of the Seas, this floating, luxurious metropolis. It boasts fine dining, upscale shopping (if that’s your thing), five Starbucks stores (for coffee snobs like me), endless entertainment including live shows and music, a casino, swimming pools, hot tubs and water slides, rock climbing, a gym, a spa, yoga classes, and so much more – all surrounded by stunning water views.
And let’s not forget being at sea, surrounded by a sea of nice (yes, nice!) people.

I love the name of the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship, Freedom of the Seas. Away from the land, in the middle of the seas, touched by the sun, embraced by the breeze, I felt free.
