True magic

Posted on Sunday, January 7th, 2024Sunday, January 7th, 2024 by Ella Joseph

In the whirlwind of life, I found myself caught between the chapters of my past and the unwritten pages of the future. Nostalgically flipping through the pages of my past, the memories, both sweet and bitter, held me captive. It was like reliving a well-worn novel, each page laden with the weight of what once was. But in doing so, I risked missing the beauty unfolding in the present.

As I turned the pages forward, a new temptation emerged—the allure of tomorrow. Plans, dreams, and desires danced before my eyes like colorful butterflies, each one whispering promises of a brighter future. Yet, in my eagerness to reach those distant chapters, I overlooked the treasures concealed in the present.

From time to time, amidst the turning pages, I paused to weave mindfulness into my daily narrative. With each breath, I grounded myself in the present moment. The sights, sounds, and sensations that had gone unnoticed became vibrant hues in the canvas of my existence – if only for a little while.

One day, while strolling through Delaware Park with a hole in my heart, a homeless looking person approached me and said to me, “You should be happy, God made you beautiful.”

Startled, in the middle of this newfound awareness, I discovered the magical elixir of gratitude. It transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary gifts. Instead of mourning what was lost or yearning for what lay ahead, I marveled at the richness of my current chapter.

As the protagonist of my own tale, I learned to pause, reflect, and thrive in the present. I realized that life wasn’t a race to the last page but a symphony of moments, each deserving to be savored.

And so, the story continues – with the lessons learned in the chapters of nostalgia and anticipation reminding me that true magic unfolds in the present moment – in the here and now, as I sip from my morning coffee, breathing in its heavenly aroma while weaving a tapestry of words for you.
